The Individual Time Trial is one of the most difficult events a cyclist can undertake. Forget the beautiful scenery, forget the rolling hills that you are thundering thru, forget the buffeting cross winds, forget your competitors. It’s you against the clock. You’re on the start ramp, you’re being held by the official starter, you are under the direction of the referee waiting for your start. You focus on the white line that leads you to the turnaround point and then back to the finish. You focus on your breathing, you focus on your heart rate and then you feel it rise as you hear 3,2,1 and your gone. Down the ramp and you feel your tyres hit the bitumen, you’re up out of the saddle and pushing as hard as you can to get up to top speed, you sit down , you get into the most aero dynamic position you can and try and hold that speed for the next 22km.
Being a club championship event, competitors were separated in age groups. Some excellent results were recorded and a full results list can be found at www.ahcycles.com.au. Averaging more than 40kph, Craig Sheldon powered along the Woodchester to Callington Road to record a time of just 33minutes. A sensational time considering the conditions. Lindy Kronen proved the fastest of the ladies with a time of 41:07. Special mention to 72 year old cycling stalwart Wolfgang Harder who thundered across the line in 53:32.
Next Sunday will be the AHVCC Road Race Championship to be held on a new course starting from the Flaxley Hall.
