AHVCC Road Championship

In a true testament to their courage, riders in the inaugural AHVCC Road Championships lined up in 4 degree tempreatures for the start of the 48km event with one question on their mind, would it snow? Well it got close as the riders experienced a hail storm mid race but undeterred they pushed on to the finish.

The event was held over four laps around a tough little course around Flaxley, Echunga and Maccy. On the climb from Echunga up to Flaxley, Martyn Risby rode everyone of his wheel to eventually win the 45-49 year category by a comfortable margin. Paul King took out the 40-44 year category but the ride of the day belonged to Paul Bell. Paul not only won the 50-54 year category but also rode the fastest time for the 48km in 1 hour 34 minutes. A tremendous time considering the conditions and riding the majority of the event alone.

With gritted teeth and determination etched across her face, Sarah Rawlinson completed her ride strongly, knowing that she had taken out the 50-54 year old female category. A great result for Sarah who has been a regular competitor all season. Sarah has had plenty of epic rides against the blokes so far this season and the result was a just reward for her consistency, well done.

Next Sunday will be the AHVCC Criterium Championship to be held on our course around Mount Barker Industrial Estate.
